Boys 1st XI Match Reports - March Games
Round 9 v Geelong Grammar
Haileybury 3/226 defeated Geelong Grammar 225 by 7 wickets
We won the toss and elected to bowl on the Rendall. After a tough start, with Geelong Grammar getting to 2-137, the boys dug deep, taking the next 8 wickets for just 88 runs, bowling Geelong out for 225. The wickets were shared amongst the bowlers, with Steenholdt, Clark and Stevens all taking 2, as well as figures of 3/41 for Khehra
In reply, after losing an early wicket, good contributions from Raza(36), Plumb(130*) and Goel(45) helped us to a comfortable win, ending with a score of 3/226, and maintaining 2nd spot on the ladder.
Round 10 v Melbourne Grammar
Haileybury 4/223 drew with Melbourne Grammar 347
After winning the toss and bowling on a flat deck out at flack park against the top team, we took a couple of early wickets, before a massive partnership of 166 put us on the back foot, with two of Melbourne’s batters making tons. After a long 109 overs in the field, we eventually bowled MGS out for 347. The highlight of the innings being Lachie Harrop bowling extreme pace, eventually resulting in 2 wickets.
With only 66 overs to bat out for the draw, contributions from Plumb(81), Goel(46) and Soys(35* - on debut) helped us to a final total of 4/223 off 66 overs, securing the draw and putting us one step closer towards a final.
Round 11 v Brighton Grammar
Haileybury 3/233 declared defeated Brighton Grammar 119 & 4/142
In the final game on the Rendall for all of the year 12s, we won the toss and elected to bowl. After a slow start, Khehra stole the show, taking 5/50 off 23.3 overs with Clark chipping in from the other end with 3/15 off his 11 overs as well. In the end we bowled BGS out for 119 on day 1.
In reply, a solid start from Kochhar(40) and Plumb(58) helped us get close to the total, before Harrop took over, smashing the bowlers all over the park on his way to a rapid 104 not out off only 70 balls.
After a declaration, in the hope of an outright win, we were unable to bowl BGS out a second time, with them finishing on 4/142.
This win however, confirmed our spot at second place on the ladder, qualifying us for the first ever APS grand final against MGS next weekend.
